Scanning the NFC Chip

Passports from different countries vary in the location of the NFC chip and phone models also differ in the location of the NFC antenna. This means that there are many possible reading positions, but only one that will work. Below we show the most common positions. If you still have troubles scanning your passport after trying these positions, then please contact us at info@svipe.com and we’ll do our best to support you.

Guidelines for the scanning:

  1. Put the document on a table or similar and keep it stable while scanning
  2. When you have found a position that works, and the phone starts to read from the chip, then keep the phone still until reading has completed.

Outside of the Front Cover.

In this position the outside of the front cover is scanned when the passport is closed. Depending on where the antenna is located on the phone, you might be more successful in placing the top of the phone on the middle of the passport (as shown in the left image) or by centering the phone on the cover (right image)

Inside of the Front Cover.

The next position to try is the inside of the front cover as some passports have a shield that makes it impossible to read the chip from the outside.

Biodata Page.

The biodata page contains all the personal information, such as the photo, name and signature. When this page is made out of plastic it is common that it also contains the chip.

Inside of the Back Cover.

The last position to try is the inside of the back cover.
